Terms and Conditions
Terms and Conditions of Contract for The London Cargo Limited’s Comprehensive Door-to-Door Delivery Service to Sri Lanka.
1. Introduction
The following contractual terms and conditions (“Terms”) govern the airfreight and door-to-door cargo service (“the Service”) provided from the United Kingdom to Sri Lanka by The London Cargo Limited (“the Company” or “London Cargo”).
By accessing or using the Service, clicking “I agree” on the customer request form, or handing over any parcel, the person or business named on the booking (“Customer” or “Shipper”) agrees to be bound by these Terms.
2. Definitions
2.1 Gross Weight — the actual weight measured on a scale (kg).
2.2 Volumetric Weight — (Length × Width × Height in cm) ÷ 5000 (kg).
2.3 Chargeable Weight — the greater of Gross Weight and Volumetric Weight.
2.4 Box or Parcel — each separately packed piece in a booking.
2.5 Service/s — collection, handling, transport, customs clearance, and delivery services provided by London Cargo and its agents.
3. Bookings, Documentation & KYC
3.1 The Customer must provide accurate sender and receiver details, contact numbers, and any required identification documents. Some destinations require a receiver ID/KYC; failure to provide a valid ID may delay delivery.
3.2 A full and accurate packing list and description of contents must be included inside the package. The Customer is responsible for the accuracy of all declared information.
4. Chargeable Weight, Reweigh & Remeasure
4.1 All consignments will be re-weighed and re-measured at our warehouse. The final invoice is based on our verified Chargeable Weight.
4.2 The Customer accepts liability for payment of the higher of declared or verified Chargeable Weight and any surcharges resulting from differences.
4.3 Attempting to manipulate declared dimensions or weight (including under-declaring volumetric size) will result in immediate surcharge, cancellation of service, and potential refusal of carriage.
5. Minimums, Limits & Surcharges
5.1 Per box limits: UK collection service generally accepts boxes up to 30 kg and no side greater than 80 cm unless otherwise agreed. Boxes exceeding either limit may be refused or charged an oversize / overweight surcharge (typical surcharge: £60 per box — amount may vary).
5.2 Nothing to collect / missed collection: If a collection is attempted but no goods are available or accessible, a £10 “Nothing to Collect” fee applies per attempt. Missed collections caused by the Customer may incur further reattempt fees.
5.3 Reattempts / Redelivery: Redelivery or extra attempts requested by the Customer after a failed delivery incur additional fees to be charged to the Customer.
5.4 Storage & Disposal: Final invoices must be paid within the stated payment period. Unpaid shipments may incur storage charges (£8.50 + VAT per day) and, after a defined notice period, the Company may treat the goods as abandoned and dispose of them; the Customer bears all costs and waives claims.
6. Packaging, Labelling & Condition
6.1 The Customer must ensure all parcels are adequately packed, sealed and protected (bubble wrap, corner protection, strong boxes) to withstand international handling and stacking. Parcels may be stacked, handled, and sorted mechanically during transit.
6.2 London Cargo is not responsible for damage resulting from insufficient packaging. Fragile items must be clearly labelled and adequately crated if required. London Cargo does not guarantee orientation (‘This Way Up’) retention during automated sorting.
6.3 All parcels must be labelled with the Customer name and contact number.
7. Prohibited, Restricted & Dangerous Goods
7.1 The Customer warrants that the shipment contains no prohibited, illegal or dangerous goods. Prohibited items include (but are not limited to): explosives, flammable liquids, aerosols, paints, perfumes, batteries and battery-powered goods (unless shipped under approved battery handling processes), perishables requiring refrigeration, radioactive materials, weapons, illegal drugs, and other items on the CAA / IATA prohibited lists. See the UK CAA and IATA lists for full details.
7.2 If prohibited or restricted items are discovered during screening, handling or customs inspection, London Cargo reserves the right to: (a) remove and safely dispose of the item(s); (b) return the item(s) to sender at Customer’s cost (including a return surcharge); (c) notify and hand over details to authorities; and/or (d) refuse carriage. Any such action does not create liability for London Cargo.
7.3 The Customer indemnifies London Cargo for any fines, penalties, removal, disposal, return charges or legal costs arising from prohibited/restricted items.
8. Customs Clearance & Duties
8.1 The Customer is responsible for payment of any duties, taxes, fines, or penalties imposed by destination customs authorities. These are not included in the freight prices.
8.2 London Cargo will act on behalf of the Customer for clearance where authorised, but customs decisions and assessments are outside London Cargo’s control.
9. Inspections & Reporting
9.1 Shipments may be opened and inspected by customs, airlines, or agents. London Cargo may be required to comply with such inspections.
9.2 If prohibited items are found, they will be dealt with as set out in clause 7.2 and relevant authorities may be notified.
10. Insurance
10.1 There is no compensation and no guarantee against damage or breakage during transit. Please acquire separate insurance if required. Maximum liability per box or suitcase is GBP £50, unless additional insurance is purchased before shipment.
11 Parcel Acceptance
11.1 Upon receipt and acknowledgment by the Receiver, the Company holds no responsibility for subsequent claims. Make sure to take a video and pictures of the package at the time of delivery. The signed receipt by the consignee signifies prima facie evidence of the cargo’s good condition and in accordance with the carriage contract.
12. Pricing Policy
12.1 Prices are subject to change without prior notice. As a cargo company, the Company’s liability is limited to GBP £50 per shipment.
13. Commercial Shipments
13.1 This Service is not intended for commercial use.
14. Parcel Collection
14.1 Ensure your parcel is prepared with clear labelling, including the Shipper’s and mobile number details. Please make all payments directly to London Cargo through the provided bank details. Cash payments are not accepted. Any cancellation post pick-up incurs a £50 charge. Please note that a deposit of £50 will be required before collection.
Please note that all domestic collections in the UK will only be made from the ground floor of any type of property. The Company does not provide an uplift service from any other floor unless an elevator is available and operational. It is the Shipper’s responsibility to ensure that all consignments are readily available on the ground floor at the time of collection.
Please note that if you schedule a pick-up/collection and there are no goods to collect, or the goods are not available at the specified time or location, a”Nothing to Collect” surcharge of £10 will be applied for every attempt
15. Third-Party company service terms
15.1 All express service shipments are governed by the respective Airline Company’s terms and conditions. Similarly, the Local Pick-Up Courier Company’s terms apply to pickup and delivery services. The quoted prices from the Company refer to third-party pickup companies that solely collect boxes. London Cargo acts solely as the Customer’s forwarding agent and not as the actual carrier.
16. Delivery Timelines
16.1 Delivery to Sri Lanka generally takes 7–12 working days from the date the shipment is dispatched from our UK warehouse.
Please note that this timeframe is an estimate and may vary due to airline schedules, customs clearance, weather conditions, regulatory checks, or other factors beyond our control. Delays caused by such circumstances do not constitute a service failure or liability on the part of London Cargo.
17. Chargeable Weight Disputes, Fraud & Manipulation
17.1 If a Customer disputes verified weight/dimensions, London Cargo will provide evidence (re-weigh/re-measure) and may require payment pending investigation. Fraudulent declarations may result in service suspension and further legal action.
18. Fees, Payment & Final Invoice
18.1 London Cargo will issue a final invoice after re-weighing/re-measuring at the warehouse. The Customer must pay within 24 hours of receiving the final invoice unless otherwise agreed in writing. Late payment may attract storage charges, interest or detention.
18.2 All bank fees, currency conversion charges, or payment processing fees are the responsibility of the Customer.
19. Force Majeure
19.1 London Cargo is not liable for delays or failures caused by events beyond its reasonable control, including, but not limited to, strikes, natural disasters, war, civil unrest, pandemics, government restrictions, airline schedule changes, or acts of God.
20. Indemnity
20.1 The Customer indemnifies and holds London Cargo and its agents harmless from any liability, claims, costs, losses, and expenses (including legal fees) arising from the Customer’s breach of these Terms, negligent packing, mis-declaration, illegal contents, or non-payment.
21. Termination, Storage & Disposal
21.1 London Cargo reserves the right to suspend or terminate the Service if the Customer breaches these Terms or fails to pay. Uncollected goods may be held and then disposed of after notice; the Customer covers any associated costs and losses. Once disposal is completed, London Cargo bears no further responsibility for the goods or their contents.
22. Governing Law & Jurisdiction
22.1 These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. The courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction.
23. Entire Agreement
23.1 These Terms constitute the entire agreement between the Customer and London Cargo regarding carriage and supersede prior representations.
24. Contact & Acceptance
24.1 By selecting I have read, understood and agree to the Terms & Conditions and submitting the form, the Customer confirms acceptance of these Terms and authorises London Cargo to act on their behalf in the provision of the Service.
